THE CHALLENGE
An auto parts manufacturer had been experiencing line shutdowns due to staff shortages. Without quantifiable analysis of how at risk its operations were, management mandated MERV 15 filters throughout its facilities. While effectively filtering 95% of 3- to 10-micron airborne particles, the MERV 15 filters placed enormous pressure on the building’s HVAC system, which the company feared was unsustainable.
THE APPROACH
The company set up Poppy’s System while their lines ran, using 12 sensors and diffusers. The science-backed information provided by Poppy allowed the facilities team to replace its MERV 15 filters with a more system-friendly combination of MERV 11 and MERV 8 filters. This move took considerable strain off the building’s HVAC system while still ensuring its employees were safe.
THE OUTCOME
Poppy’s data quantified the pros and cons of filter modifications that saved the company 8% on facility heating and cooling costs and extended the life of its HVAC system. Additionally, regular monitoring by Poppy provides alerts to switch back to higher MERV filters whenever extra protection is needed.
