THE CHALLENGE

A financial services firm with a 40,000-square-foot headquarters needed to safely return to full capacity in the office while controlling operating costs. HR reported that employee turnover numbers were up, and the firm faced challenges recruiting new employees who had the option with other companies to work from home. Finance also forecasted a significant increase in the cost of employee long-term health care premiums.

THE APPROACH

The firm set up Poppy’s System in three hours, using eight monitors and diffusers in common areas, the lunchroom, and open workspaces. Within 24 hours, the firm’s Ops, Facilities, and HR teams could view quantified data about the office’s infection-resistant status. They discovered that while the odds of pathogen transmission overall were low, hotspots existed in the boardroom and coffee areas. The teams placed inexpensive portable purifiers in the correct locations, as Poppy data indicated.

THE OUTCOME

The Poppy system verified that the newly deployed purifiers reduced hotspot transmission risks by over 72%, and the firm communicated its excellent office performance using Poppy digital signs. Occupancy increased to 85% within four weeks, and job candidate acceptance rates followed suit. Additionally, Poppy’s ongoing monitoring now gives the firm early warnings when systems need to be adjusted to protect against future COVID-19 or flu outbreaks.
